1.29.2009

Today is 1.29.2009 and I am writing to say that I will not be celebrating my "birthday" tomorrow. I know as people get older they don't want to be reminded about how old they are, but that isn't why I don't want to celebrate...

Birthday is the name given to the date of the anniversary of the day of a person's birth.

I've decided that an "annual" event is just really not important enough to be a cause for a celebration. What are we really recognizing in a birthday? The fact that I made it another 365 days without killing over dead, Wow, BFD. What exactly is a year anyway? 365 days = 8,760 hours = 525,600 minutes = 31,536,000 seconds.

Most people would agree once you reach a certain age your birthdays become so routine that they start loose meaning. I think it is because as you celebrate more birthday events they start to loose their importance.

I think of it like this... let's say I'm 6 years old. I can remember my last three birthdays, when I turned 3, 4, and 5. At this point in my life I have celebrated 3 important milestones. And probably have had three memorable parties. Now I'm 37. Do I remember anything special about previous birthdays, not really. Unless they correspond with some of the more important "right of passage" birthdays. Like the 16th, yeah I can date! The 18th, Lotto tickets and porn mags, The 21st, drink alcohol "legally", The 24th, cheap car insurance. Otherwise these events are basically all the same.

So I'm working on an idea that would make a birthday celebration scale that increases the interval the longer you are alive. Here is the way it works so far: Celebrate a birthday every year for the first 21. Then celebrate every other year for 9 intervals. Then every 3rd year for 3 intervals. Every 4th year for 3 intervals. And from then on celebrate every 5th year. When you have lived on the Earth for 100 revolutions around the sun you will have celebrated your existence 50 times. Plenty for the average person…

8/30/8

Hiked the Northfork (Huckleberry) trail to Tablerock Mountain today with Jen and 8 friends. Weather was great; 50 degrees in the morning, to 80 degrees by late afternoon.

GPS stats for the hike;

6.8 miles each way for a total distance traveled 13.6 miles

Elevation start at about 7,000 feet, top of tablerock GPS said was 11,130.

Total climb of 4,130 feet.

Time up 5:59, averaged 52:42 minutes per mile.
Time down 3:55, averaged 36:15 minutes per mile.

Calories burned according to GPS; 3099

The hike was much more difficult than I remembered. Everyone had fun and worked hard. The wind blew hard and cold up on top. It was a great 10 hour experience. A hike like this once a summer would keep you young. Next time we'll bring the kids.

I hate Idaho... This State blows, way too hard for me to want to live here anymore.

There are 300 Million people in the United States. 1,499,402 unfortunate people have to call Idaho their home; 161,031 live in the Idaho Falls area. That means 1/2 of 1 % of our country lives here. So 99.5% live somewhere better than me and I am not happy about it anymore. Anyone ever wonder why all this land was here for the taking 150 years ago. Because there was nothing here to create a civilization around. Why is it those who have to search for "religious freedom" always get stuck with the places nobody wants at the time? Didn't B. Young know how close he was to Oregon? How about waiting to find the MOST God forsaken piece of real estate from sea to shining sea and say "this is the place ?!?!?" And now why am I still here I ask myself? Because I have a great job that I can't leave. I work in an industry that has such a bad reputation that the government has to put it somewhere where no one can see it, and if it all blows up it wont harm any one of any importance. I guess it's worth it because it's the only think keeping me here right now.

So how do I keep my sanity? I have snowboarded once, sometimes twice every weekend since Christmas. Although it has provided us with countless hours of family time together, I know we could duplicate the fun somewhere else and not loose my sanity. But the snow won't melt, the sun won't shine, the air will not warm up and THE WIND WILL NOT STOP BLOWING!!! But that shouldn't be a surprise I live at the bottom of a hill covered with WINDMILLS!!! We have traveled throughout the West and I know I could be happier in any number of cities. Someday I will quit complaining and actually move out of this terrible State. At least this summer we'll go visit someplace nice...

snowboarding

It is official Kelly Canyon in now closed. Our Season pass will no longer get us to the top of the hill. It is a sad shame because they have the most incredible snow they have had for ten years. We spent all day Saturday riding until they kicked us off the hill. We saw Aunt June, Elisha, and Dalley. Kolton and Dalley went and rode some "hard stuff" together. Now we will have to spend our time at Teton Village.

Jaime tagged me...

What is her name? Jennifer Ann Williams

How long have you been married? 16 years

How long did you date? 6 years

When was your first kiss? Ever, or with Jen?

Better be safe and not answer yet.

How old is she? She will say she is 29, but everyone knows she is really 30 and doesn’t want to admit it.

Who eats more? I always have and always will eat more.

Who said I love you first? I always told my girlfriends I love them first, chicks love that stuff and it’s a great way to win points early

Who is taller? I am.

Who sings better? No one really sings in our house, but in a real competition, she would win hands down.

Whose temper is worse? What does this mean? How about “Whose temper is better”, mines pretty good and Jens does just fine also.

Who does the laundry? Until I get step-by-step procedures I won’t touch the stuff. It’s not worth the damage I cause!

Who does the dishes? Kids, that’s why we had them

Who sleeps on the right side of the bed? I will sleep anywhere. Jen might be more picky.

Who mows the lawn? Once again I will say the kids. At least they will this year

Who pays the bills? I manage the finances.

Who cooks dinner? Jen “cooks” dinner, I “pick-up” dinner

Who drives when you are together? I always drive. Control your own destiny.

Who is more stubborn? Not really a word I like. Always being right, and knowing it does not make you “stubborn”

Who is the first to admit when they are wrong? Neither of us we are never wrong!

Whose parents do you see the most? Parents are a necessary evil that must be dealt with somewhat regularly in order to minimize their impact on your otherwise peaceful life.

Who proposed? I did.

Who has more friends? Difficult to say, I haven’t counted lately.

Who has more siblings? Same

Who wears the pants in the family? After 16 years you find your place. We are each subject matter experts in our own areas, and work together to resolve conflicts.

What is her favorite meal? Mexican and Mexican.

What does she enjoy doing in her spare time? Making extremely cool videos, Running, snowboarding, blogging, working on the Classic Catering Web site, Planning the future.

What is one of her good qualities? She is the best mother in the world. Her kids love her. She knows how to discipline, manage, maintain, teach, and spoil her kids all at the same time. It is amazing!

What do you love most about her? She is my soul-mate. It probably isn’t fair that I found mine on the first try. But you play the hand dealt to you. I may have used up a lifetime of luck finding Jen when I did, but I can coast through life now cause It’s too easy with her by my side.

I TAG STEVE!

Just because Jen has gotten into this whole inforamtion age of communicating through the internet she now believes I must also follow the trend. I created this Blog back in October and never posted anything. After hearing her gentle reminders about posting and checking my facebook I guess I at least better try!

Work is great. We are getting ready to start the Mar's Rover Battery and other projects. School is Forever, at this rate Kolton will be finished with college before I. Maybe one more year?
